Our Mission
Fullwell advocates for local, state, and federal food policy that promotes health, justice, and sustainability.
We focus on developing policies and programs in California related to the food safety net and public food procurement that have the potential to be replicated across the country.
Our Vision
We know full well that hunger is a solvable problem within our generation.
We know full well that we can feed ourselves while supporting our health and the health of the planet.
We know full well that dignity and fair wages for food workers benefit us all.
Shaping our Policy Priorities
Fullwell’s work is grounded in the following guiding principles, which ensure that our policy proposals advance our mission.
Vision Aligned
We ensure that our advocacy campaigns are rooted in the core values that underpin our vision, and that our work remains focused on driving change that creates broad and lasting impact.
California Based
We focus on policy that is California-based and prioritize issues that directly impact Californians.
Sustainable
We direct attention to policies that have a politically viable chance for success and can secure the necessary resources for long term sustainability.
Solvable Through Policy
We consider whether policy can adequately address identified issues and pursue opportunities where legislative and administrative action can make a tangible difference.
Food Focused
We center our efforts on issues that directly influence food systems or address food-related issues.
Evidence Based
We support policy positions that have a strong foundation of evidence and consider their effectiveness, as well as any potential negative consequences.
Scalable & Operational
We prioritize initiatives that have the potential for broad scalability and a clear path to implementation.
We evaluate the alignment of our policy proposals with these guiding principles by deliberating among Fullwell staff, Advisory Board members, and partner organizations within our coalitions.
